Cabinetmakers Choice invited to supply and install custom made cabinetry for The Block contestants.
It’s 11pm and the phone rings. Yet another change to the wardrobe design. Nigel Robinson takes it in his stride and prepares for the busy day ahead.
Being a tradesman on the TV series, The Block, is grueling and does test your patience as you battle for space with other tradesman swarming the building site. It’s nowhere near as challenging as the issues the contestants face, but nonetheless, it means working long hours and there’s definitely no room for error.
Geelong business, Cabinetmakers Choice was approached to design, manufacture and install the wardrobes for The Block 2016 contestants.
“We were absolutely thrilled to be invited to participate in The Block”, Nigel says.
Saying yes and then realising the enormity of the task, Nigel, his business partner, Chris Adamko and the team moved into fast forward mode. “It’s a tight timeframe to meet with contestants, draw up designs, make design changes, order materials, take delivery, make the wardrobes and install them – all in the space of one week,” Nigel says.
“The wardrobes installed are designer plus,” says Nigel. “Luxurious and modern but still in keeping with the art deco theme of The Block apartments.”
Visually appealing custom built wardrobes, walk in robes and even ‘change rooms’ are becoming more and more of a feature in homes, defining the look of your bedroom space.
The variety of materials to use for wardrobes these days is endless from melamine through to natural bamboo.
Wardrobe fit outs need to be well thought out so clothes hang at the right length and there’s sections for handbags, hats, scarves, belts and ties. Clever use of drawer dividers for jewellery and display cases with clear glass or secret compartments add to wardrobe functionality.
And, when it comes to shoes, Cabinetmakers Choice has a special revolving shoe rack that holds over 40 pairs including a special section for winter boots.
“The revolving shoe rack we made for one of The Block contestants is every woman’s dream, but, you’ll have to wait until the show goes to air until all is revealed”, says Nigel.
To celebrate the DIY home renovation buzz that comes when shows like The Block air, Cabinetmakers Choice is running a DIY competition. Post your DIY project to Instagram or Facebook using the #CMCDIY to go in the draw to win a $500 Cabinetmakers Choice voucher.
