Ben & Andy, the pranksters from Geelong, add a fun element to The NEW Block.
Geelong school teachers, Ben Toyne and Andy Sutherland, both 25 years of age had no previous renovating experience when they took on The Block.
And yet, they got the phone call “pack your bags, you start in seven days.” Leaving their jobs, they were given $200,000 to set out and renovate an apartment.
We’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the pair of fun loving pranksters and they recently swung past Cabinetmakers Choice to say hello.
Cabinetmakers choice was approached to design and supply upmarket wardrobes for The Block. Contestants and Andy and Ben were the first team we worked with.
Cabinetmakers Choice isn’t the only Geelong tradie doing work for the boys. Seeing the magnitude and timing of the work required, we engaged AB Cabinets to help out with the project.
Ben and Andy’s builder, Trent Comelli from Trenic who’s managing the build is also from Geelong . Along with plasterers from Torquay, it’s great for Geelong tradies to have the opportunity to appear on the popular renovation show.
And what’s life on The Block like?
Working in limited spaces with a plethora of tradies around, a lack of sleep, and the camera a crew filming what feels like 24/7 – it’s a pressure cooker.
And is it a bit unrealistic?
Yes. When you are knocking up rooms in a week – thank goodness that only happens on reality TV – the deadlines are very unrealistic.
There really are days for example that start at 6am Saturday and work through to room reveals on Sunday 9am.
But, through all the pressure, it’s clear the boys have not lost their sense of humour as they joke around in the Cabinetmakers Choice wardrobe showroom.
What a fabulous time the best mates are having. Win or lose, they’ll be able to look back at The Block and see what a fun, unreal time they’ve had.
Thanks for calling in to see Chris, Nige, Ross and the team at Cabinetmakers Choice, Ben and Andy. You’re welcome back any time!
